Karkala - MMMC - KMC - MCI

What am I into now? Its all about the clinical posting. We're kind of having the first time experience to be exposed to the patients, communicate with them, taking their history and examine them. Before this jumpa patient yg sihat-sihat masa clinical skill saja.

Well then, I was posted to Karkala as my first posting. It's somewhere far far away from Manipal. Actually it just 38km in distance but it takes about 1 hour to reach there. If 38km by Terengganu type of road, it would be a less-than-15 minutes journey.


So the routine began. 8am of lecture at Interact Lecture Hall, then we rushed to tapau our lunch at CBS canteen or FoodCourt (the most efficient tapau-service in Manipal at 9am currently), hurrying ourselves to get into the bus. The bus will depart Karkala at 9.15am.

Being so bored in the bumpy-bumpy bus, cannot really sleep some more, nothing much I can do. I tried to memorize some Kannada words, adding my vocab and making sounds-relevant-sentence on my own. Usually the first 15 minutes of the journey, we are so hyper, chatting, crapping, laughing and kacau-kacau budak nerd. But then, seems like the fierce journey restricted our socializing period, the happening moment lowered slowly, came into a silence scene. Everyone melayan perasaan masing-masing pulak. Tidur normally.

10.30am the tutorial class for pediatric start. Then 11.30 we are free to see the patient in the ward. Not only to see but have to take their history and examine them. 22 of us been divided into 3 groups to go to Pediatric ward, Postnatal Ward and OPD. Somebody must kena present one of the case at 12.15 or something. So, just jaga-jaga.

One of the biggest challenge being post here is BAHASA. Saya yang tahu sikit-sikit Kannada pun pening. Things like you can ask them 'berapa umur'. But when they reply something, its quite difficult to catch their answer. Kemahiran memerhati gerak mulut itu penting.



1.20pm we have lunch break until 2.15pm. Canteen sangat kecil, kedai pun tak banyak. Even they do have food, usually makanan itu tak mengenyangkan orang-orang Malaysia macam saya. It just that environmental factor, where you were raised as a mesti-makan-nasi-punya-manusia, when fed with makanan-kenyang-orang-Karkala of course you wont really satisfy. Hehe


Sampai Manipal balik around 5.30pm. Tak banyak yang mampu dibuat memandangkan fatigue level itu agak tinggi. Usually 9pm or something my brain wont really function well. Hanya katil yang empuk itu bermain-main dimata. Then the routine goes on for the next days.

For our batch we are a bit unlucky since the hot issue of KMC's derecognition by MCI (Medical Council of India) affected us. It's only the KMC's problem, nothing to do with our beloved MMMC. The thing is, MCI dont want KMC to share their facilities with other colleges. Budak-budak mereka terlebih kot. Maka mereka memisahkan segala-galanya yang berkaitan dengan perkongsian yang telah wujud sejak lama dulu.

Budak-budak hostel awal-awal lagi dihalau, cari hostel lain, not that particular block. That one only for tempe! So kita dapat blok yang jauh dari kelas. Next, lecture hall kami di 2nd floor semua shifted to 3rd floor. And yes if you come very late you have to panjat tangga 3 tingkat, sebab lift mesti penuh tempe yang nak naik sampai tingkat 1 saja. Fine. Recently pulak dia buat dinding depan pintu each lecture hall. Tak faham significance nya.

But the one yang affected us the most is, tempat posting kami. For only one week we've been posted to Udupi hospital for Medicine, Peadiatric1, OBG1, and Surgery, and to Karkala only for Pediatric2 and OBG2 postings. So it suppose only one batch's posted to Karkala. (Batch saya la tu, group F, last one maa).

Tapi, starting from next week, 3 batches akan ber posting di Karkala for fully Pediatric, OBG and Medicine. Alasannya Udupi hospital tak mampu terima lagi budak-budak MMMC. Macam merepek. Karkala hospital tak lah se havoc Udupi's. Mampukah ia menampung student yang ramai dengan kapasiti patient yang tak adalah ramai dan rumit. Saya pun asyik jumpa patient yang sama di Karkala. And the same patient been interrogated by us, so kesian. Orang tu sakit kot. MCI tak puas hati dengan KMC ke MMMC?


Baiklah, kita tunggu dan lihat consequence nya macam mana. I wishes I can blah from this tempe world as soon as possible. Post ni macam luahan perasaan pulak. Tiba-tiba macam emo. Saya cuma terasa hak saya dicemar. Bila satu perkara itu diletakkan bukan pada tempatnya, itulah zalim. Oh doa orang dizalimi itu makbul. Let's pray the best for us. Rabbana yassir wala tu'assir ya karim.
